Each year in January, Detroit’s attention turns to design and creativity. In 2009 the Detroit Artists Market will take its own look at design with the DAM Design Show . The show will open with a ticketed event January 16, 2009 from 7pm – 10pm. Adding to this exclusive reception will be a special Jewelry Concepts runway show produced by Detroit Fashion Pages.
This show will look at the entire creative process from concept to design to creation of an artistic and functional piece. Ten designers will take on this process in creating “Chair”. The show will exhibit pieces from their creative process, including concept sketches, scale models, and the finished piece. The DAM Design Show will provide an intimate look into how design “happens”, and results in unique functional pieces. Each of the designers or design teams will be invited from various disciplines – artists, designers, architects, engineers, carpenters, and others will bring their special eye and talent to the process. As Metro Detroit sharpens its focus on creative businesses as an economic growth industry for the area, the DAM Design Show is perfectly poised to explore these conversations. This exhibition reminds us all that art is a vital component of our everyday lives.
The 2009 Design Show will run for two weeks at DAM. Following, the work will be featured at the furniture and design showroom MEZZANINE, February 4 – 15th.
