I create pieces with non-traditional mediums, reinterpreting the familiar in a way that challenges one’s preconceived notion of its original purpose or image. Natural, manufactured, found, and repurposed materials bring their own history to the pieces they are incorporated into. Structure is achieved by connecting and suspending these disparate materials and their origins together with different weights of annealed steel wire. Aluminum screen can be sculpted by stretching, draping, and gathering. Layering, manipulating, and appliqueing the screen conveys chromatic tones of transparency and opacity. These materials and processes allow me, through my art, to artistically explore the spectrum of experiences and concepts of repairing, rebuilding, reinvention, loss, reclamation, beauty, ugliness, flaws, perfection, and irony.
