Artist Statement
Mike Ross is primarily a painter who also works extensively with wood. Themes of repetition, disorientation, and occasionally reassurance figure into his work, which attempts to explore that which Brion Gyson referred to in his statement that so-called "random" acts lead to discoveries of "the things that you know that you don't know that you know". His goal is ultimately the creation of a daily, changing psychological backdrop; an interpretation of what the world looks like. He attended Oakland University and graduated in 2003 with a degree in Anthropology and Studio Art. He has been working out of 333 Midland Studios in Highland Park since March of 2014.
