Anna Gukov is an artist and designer based in the Metro Detroit area. Working primarily in ceramics, her practice blurs the boundaries between art and design. Anna holds a BDes in Industrial Design from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, Canada, and is currently pursuing an MFA in Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Artist Statement
Anna’s work reimagines interior and architectural details through ceramic sculpture to examine the reciprocal relationship between the built environment and a sense of self. Decoration records lived experience—desires, habits, memories—but it can also conjure up the judgments that define taste and value. Her work explores the tension between making a space feel personal and livable, and the inherited expectations that make interiors feel performative and policed.
