About
Deborah Hecht is a metro Detroit artist based in Oak Park, Michigan. She holds a BFA from Wayne State University and has pursued additional studies at The New York Studio School, Brooklyn College, CCS, and Pewabic Pottery. Over the years, Deborah has exhibited widely and earned numerous awards, with her work included in both local and national collections. Notable commissions include installations at The Jewish Home and Aging Services in West Bloomfield. Her art—featured in publications and books, including one cover—spans sculpture, watercolor, ceramic tile, and mosaic. In recent years, she has focused on creating wall and three-dimensional works using found objects and discarded materials, transforming waste into art that reflects both creativity and conscience.
Artist Statement
Rooted in a lifelong aversion to waste—both personal and environmental—my art celebrates renewal and resourcefulness. By incorporating broken, discarded, and found objects into my work, I transform what was once overlooked into something vibrant and meaningful, weaving color, pattern, and reflection into every piece.
