About

Jeanne was born and raised on the East side of Detroit and has lived in the city for the past 40+ years. In the late 70's Jeanne was accepted into College for Creative Studies after graduating from High School and studied under prominent instructors such as Richard Jersey, William Johnson and Pat Ligtie, to name a few. She has a B.S. from Wayne State University and also a Masters in Fine Arts from Madonna University. Her collection of Native American portraits were displayed at the Jesse Besser Historical Museum. Self-taught in egg-tempera, she wrote the icon, Christ Pantocrator, which was blessed and then presented in ecumenical services at St. Kenneth Parish in Plymouth. During the Covid lockdown and to support reading at home, together with teacher, Sarah McCormick, they designed and implemented the, Paint a Reader Program. https://www.livingartwork2005.com/paint-a-reader.html

Artist Statement

Jeanne K McCormick has over 40 years experience in portraiture work. Her early work series of charcoal Native American portraits, including Chief Joseph and Sitting Bull, we're exhibited in the Jesse Besser Historical Museum in Alpena, MI. A commission to write the icon, Christ Pantocrator, led her to do a series of egg tempera icons and portraits. Self-taught, her finished Christ Pantocrator icon was blessed and used in Ecumenical services at St. Kenneth Parish in, MI. Today, Jeanne enjoys a self-made carrier painting watercolor portraits, places and beautiful floral note cards. Through social media she accepts commissions from around the world.
