Dope Women in Media celebrates women in the media arts, spotlighting their contributions to film, video, photo, and new media. Local Detroit artists analyze and investigate a spectrum of personal and social issues that impact contemporary art and mainstream culture. The Dope Women in Media exhibition honors and elevates Detroit women’s critical, innovative, and experimental art, filmmaking, and storytelling.

Laura D. Gibson  is a visual and lens-based media artist, independent curator, and creative project manager in Detroit, MI. Gibson uses video, audio, and performance to dissect ways of maneuvering the city as a woman of color while documenting and examining the notions of intimacy in reflecting on space and the idea of home. Gibson is the recipient of the Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Emerging Artist Award, Redmond Design Prize, the 2023-2024 Flourish Fund, and the past artist resident and recipient of the “Pay-It-Forward” Grant from the Modern Ancient Brown Foundation.
