Jeff Schofield is trained both as a sculptor and an architect. He holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and an M Arch from Columbia University in the City of New York. An American citizen, Schofield was raised in Brussels, Belgium, and later worked in Paris and Dubai as a sustainable architect. He settled in Detroit seven years ago to pursue a career as a visual artist focused on environmental themes.
As an emerging artist, Schofield creates large-scale environmental installations, including outdoor public artworks at Franconia Sculpture Park in Minnesota, the Melvin Johnson Sculpture Garden at Chautauqua Institute in New York, Prairie Creek Park in Indiana, Kellogg Community College in Michigan, and at the Dubai English Speaking College.
“Colorful plastic debris, shiny metal shards, flashy broken toys, rusty used hand tools, discarded consumer goods, and crumpled product containers. These objects embody tensions and conflicts between humanity and nature. My art practice explores the acts and remnants of human intrusions upon the earth. Working with found materials, I create artwork depicting visual aspects of climate change.”
